Duties: |
- Serves as the college’s Safety Compliance Officer and works with the college at large to manage safety and health compliance issues
- Using both the on-line platform and periodic live training, conducts or oversees training in Blood-borne Pathogens, Right-to-Know, Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout-Tagout and other related safety topics; and arranges for external trainers for areas such as Confined Space Entry and Department of Transportation Hazardous Material Transport, maintaining records of all training's.
- Conducts internal audits and provides guidance in the remediation of safety hazards and implementation of chemical and other safety practices
- Periodically reviews and oversees the implementation of mandated plans related to areas such as Blood Borne Pathogens/Exposure Control, Right to Know, Hazardous Waste Management, Hazard Communication, Regulated Medical Waste, Indoor Air Quality, Confined Space Entry, Spill Prevention Control, and Storm Water Prevention Plans.
- Oversees the handling and disposal of regulated medical waste and hazardous waste, preparing and securing appropriate documentation.
- Coordinates with department supervisors in the management, labeling, storage, inventory and disposal of hazardous materials. Monitors accurate completion, submission and filing of Right-to-Know Material Safety Data Sheets/Global Harmonization Standards annually with the NJ Department of Health.
- Serves as the contact person and prepares documentation, communication and site visits/audits with external agencies such as Atlantic and Cape May county departments of health, NJ Department of Health, NJ Department of Environmental Protection, NJ Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health, US Environmental Protection Agency and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
- Serves as the college contact in the case of public health advisories and health and safety related compliance issues and advises management on policy and procedure as needed in support of the college strategic plan
- Coordinates the college’s HAZMAT compliance within guidelines
- Assists with college, local and county initiatives related to health and safety
- Serves as a member of the College’s Safe Campus Cross-Functional Committee and as a resource to the Chemical Hygiene Officer, Facilities/Maintenance, Art, Culinary, Print Shop, Nursing, Continuing Education, Security and any other department engaged in the use of hazardous material/regulated medical waste.
